[Indian Polity] Fundamental Duties - TNPSC Indian Polity Study Materials

Fundamental Duties

Fundamental duties are certain duties given in the Constitution of India, which aims to act as a reminder to the citizens that while enjoying the Fundamental rights they should also have certain duties to perform.

List of Fundamental Duties 

Article 51A. It shall be the duty of every citizen of India—
(a) to abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions, the National Flag and the National Anthem;
(b) to cherish and follow the noble ideals which inspired our national struggle for freedom;
(c) to uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India;
(d) to defend the country and render national service when called upon to do so;
(e) to promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood amongst all the people of India transcending religious, linguistic and regional or sectional diversities; to renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women;
(f) to value and preserve the rich heritage of our composite culture;
(g) to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wild life, and to have compassion for living creatures;
(h) to develop the scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform;
(i) to safeguard public property and to abjure violence;
(j) to strive towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity so that the nation constantly rises to higher levels of endeavour and achievement;
*[(k) who is a parent or guardian to provide opportunities for education to his child or, as the case may be, ward between the age of six and fourteen years.]

Important Facts to Remember
  1. The original constitution of India as adopted on November 26, 1949 did not have the fundamental Duties part.
  2. In 1976, By the 42nd Constitutional Amendment act 1976, 10 fundamental duties were added in the Constitution.
  3. It is included in the Part IV - A.
  4. In  2002, one more Fundamental duty was added [*Article 51A (k)] by the 86th Constitutional Amendment act 2002. So number of FD is 11 now.
  5. Committees related with Fundamental Duties
    1. Swaran Singh committee (1976)
      • Recommended the Fundamental duties to be added in the constitution in 1976
    2. Verma Committee (1999)
      • Set up in 1999, to identify the other provisions in constitution for implementation of the fundamental duties.

How to Prepare for TNPSC Group 4 2016 Exam From Home?

Few things to know about Upcoming TNPSC Group 4 Exam
  • The Question paper will be in the 10th Standard Level but 10 - 20% of the questions may come from the 11th and 12th Std books and other sources. So, to score high marks you need to cover these books too.
  • More number of direct questions when compared with Group 2 and Group 1. So it requires a number of Revisions to keep the facts in mind.
  • The eligibility is 10th Standard. So for Degree holders it is not the right job for their career. They should consider this only as back up job until they get Group 2/higher one. They should also try to crack Group 2/2a exams.

(iii) The Technical and Non-Technical Staff of TANSI who have faced retrenchment and have not been absorbed in the Government / Corporations/ Undertakings may also apply, if they are otherwise qualified except age. The relevant age rule will be relaxed by the Government in their favour if they come up for selection.
B(i) EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION (Common Qualification for all Posts): (as on Date will be published in the 2014 TNPSC Group 4 Notification)

Candidates should possess the following or its equivalent qualification:
Must possess Minimum General Educational Qualification viz., Must have passed
S.S.L.C Public Examination or its equivalent with eligibility for admission to Higher
Secondary Courses of Studies (or) to College Courses of studies.
A Date of Notification  -
B Last date for submission of applications  -
C Last date for payment of Fee through Bank or Post Office  -
D Date of Written Examination

Note:
The candidates who have not passed SSLC Examination or its equivalent are not eligible even if they possess a higher qualification.

B(ii) TECHNICAL QUALIFICATION:
(a) FOR TYPIST:
Must have passed the Government Technical Examination in Typewriting:-
(i) by Higher / Senior Grade in Tamil and English (or)
(ii) by Higher / Senior Grade in Tamil and Lower/ Junior Grade in English (or)
(iii) by Higher / Senior Grade in English and Lower/ Junior Grade in Tamil.
(b) FOR STENO-TYPIST, GRADE III :
Must have passed the Government Technical Examination both in Typewriting and in Shorthand:-
(i) by Higher / Senior Grade in Tamil and English (or)
(ii) by Higher / Senior Grade in Tamil and Lower/ Junior Grade in English (or)
(iii) by Higher / Senior Grade in English and Lower/ Junior Grade in Tamil.
Candidates who possess intermediate grade shall choose Junior Grade column, as the intermediate grade is not treated as equivalent to Senior Grade.
Candidates for both the posts i.e. Typist and Steno-Typist, Grade III Shall be selected in the following Order:-
a. Candidates with technical qualification referred to in item (i) above will be considered first for selection.
b. In case candidates with technical qualification referred to in item (i) above are not available, candidates with technical qualification referred to in item (ii) above will be considered for selection.
c. In case candidates with technical qualification referred to in item (i) and (ii) above are not available, candidates with technical qualification referred to in item (iii) above will be considered for selection.

(C) Computer Qualification (for Typist and Steno-Typist, Grade III):-
Candidates should have passed the “Certificate Course in Computer on Office Automation” awarded by the Technical Education Department.

Note:
“Candidates who do not possess the said qualification (viz., Computer Qualification) conducted by the Technical Education Department may also apply. If selected, they should acquire such qualification within the period of their probation”.

(D) Preference in Selection
In respect of post of Field Surveyor other things being equal preference shall be given to the candidates with ITI qualification in survey.
