1.TN Govt fixes Rs 1600 as Maximum supporting price for paddy. 
Tamil Nadu Government has fixed Rs 1600 as Maximum Supporting Price (MSP) for Paddy for the 2017-18 Kharif Season.

Center had fixed the MSP for Grade A Variety as 1590 and common variety as 1550. Tamil Nadu Government said that it will give Rs 70 extra for Grade A Variety and Rs 50 for Common variety.

2.Union Minister laid Foundation Stone to protect Majuli Island from natural disaster 
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has laid foundation stone to protect Majuli Island from Flood and Erosion in Assam.

Majuli Island is the largest Riverine Island in the world located in Assam. It is often victim of both flood and Erosion due to its Geographical area. It is surrounded by Brahmaputra River on the south, Kherkatia Suti, Luit Suti and Subansiri Rivers on the North which is prone to both flood and erosion almost all over the year. 

3.UDAY Coaches to be roll out Soon.

Gadkari to flags off first cargo transportation through NW 2 .

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has flagged off First Cargo Transportation carrying cement through National Waterways -2 on Brahmaputra.

It will travel from Pandu to Dubri which will help to save 150,000 tonnes km of road transportation per trip and 300 km of road travel.

Waterways which aim to reduce the logistics cost, especially one horse power can move 4000 kg on waterways comparing 150 kg on road and 500 kg on rail.

Also 1 liter of fuel can move 105 ton per km in waterways comparing 25 ton per km on road and 85 on Rail.

Environment ministry launches Rs 100 crore regional project on ‘Climate Resilience Building among Farmers through Crop Residue Management under the National Adaptation Fund for Climate Change (NAFCC)to tackle Stubble burning which impact on climate change. The first phase of project will be implemented in states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Initially Farmers will be encourage to adopt alternative method by Creating awareness , capacity builiding activities which would enhance their income and also which diversify therir livelihood option.

The reasoan for buning residues in filed is due to increased mechanization, decreasing livestock, long time for composting and no economically viable alternate use of residues.

Buring the residue not only impacts global warming it also impact on air quality, soil health and human health. Burning residue is one of the main reason for poor air quality in National Capital.

1.DRDO successfully test fired interceptor missile. 
As part of India's Ballistic Missile defense system, Defence Research and Development Organisation of India has successfully test fired Supersonic inteceptor missile from Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast.

Intercepor missile successfully destroyed the incoming ballistic missile launhced from LC-III complex of Integrated Test Range, Chandipur. This is the  third test carried out in this year. It has a capacity to destroy any ballistic missile  within 30km altittude of Earth Atmosphere

1.Indian Science congress to be held in Manipur University. 
The 2018 Indian Science Congress to be held at Manipur University in Imphal in March 2018. It was earlier scheduled to be held at Osmania University in January but it has been rescheduled to march in Manipur University due to security problems. This is the first time Indian Science congress has been rescheduled in last minute in 106 years of its history.

2.Afghanistan is willing to join CPEC says China. 
China said that Afghanistan is willing to join its China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which is not against India and also warned  that CPEC project should not disturbed by any third country.

China has reiterating that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is an economic cooperation and connectivity project, it will not target any third party and doesn’t involve any territorial disputes.

Earlier in May 2017 India has boycotted the China’s Belt and Road initiative, objecting to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor which lay through disputed territory.

3.Government slashed Small savings interest rate  by 20 bps 
Ministry of Finance has slashed Small Savings Interest rate by 0.2 per cent point  which including National savings Certificate (NSC) , Public Provident Fund (PPF) for the Jan- March period.

4.Bamboo not a tree, Rajya Sabha passes bill 
Rajya Sabha passes bill that Bamboo is not a tree amending the Indian Forest Act 1927 to encourage Bamboo cultivation in Non-Forest Areas.  Lokh Sabha already passed this bill in early December.
As per the bill it will exempts bamboo grown in non-forest areas from the definition of a tree, therefore provides requirement of felling and transit permit.

Kerala Government has launched Geographic Information System (GIS) based 1,000 festivals in the State which helps to increase the tourism.

  • The aim of the project is to connect Asian countries with Africa and Europe for Greater trade.

Tamil Nadu Government along with Government of India has signed a$318 Million loan agreement with world Bank’s International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) for modernizing the irrigation projects to promote climate resilient agriculture and also to improve the water management and to create all small and marginal farmers for better access to markets in Tamil Nadu.

  • Tamil Nadu is water scarcity state, which is continuously facing the water shortage every year and also it will increase in coming years.
  • Under this project around 4800 irrigation tanks and 477 check dams across 66 sub basins will be rehabilitate and modernize to get more water to irrigation system in Tamil Nadu.
  • Around 500,000 small and marginal farmers will get benefit with the improved and modernized tank irrigation systems.
  • This project is expecting 18- 20 percent  increase the yields of rice, maize.
  • The project will also help farmers to shift from mono crop system (Paddy) to mixed cropping system (includes fruits, pulses,oilseeds) by giving support to better access to markets, giving post-harvest management, and giving modern technologies.

India voted against US move on Jerusalem at UN.

India voted against US move on recognising Jerusalem as Israel Capital. India has voted on favour of resolution brought by Turkey and Yemen in the United Nations opposing the US decision on recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital.

The resolution is approved by majority of member countries by 127-9 at the UN General Assembly.

Why India voted in favour of Resolution?
  • The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation  (OIC) earlier in December has decided not to support US recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital.
  • OIC has 57 member countries and most of the countries are Islamic countries except 8 countries, so Jerusalem issue will be very sensitive for OIC Members.
  • India has huge strategic and economic interest with OIC members, so if voted against the resolution brought about Jerusalem in UN will create strain in relation with OIC Countries.
  • Also India wants to balance out its policy towards both Israel and Palestine. Recently India has deepened its military and strategic cooperation with Israel and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Visit to Israel, which many critics viewed that India has ignoring Palestine.
  • But recent vote against US for recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital has supported Palestine, which emphasised India’s independent west Asia policy and India’s stand for peace in West Asia.

RBI said imposing PCA is for Banks growth.

Reserve Bank of India has once again insisted that prompt correction action (PCA) is enforced to Indian Banks to improve bank’s financial health.

What is Prompt Correction Action (PCA). 
  • PCA is an RBI System in which it will take corrective action against the Indian Banks when the Bank’s financial conditions worsen below certain limits.
  • For this RBI has given certain threshold limit to the banks,  in that RBI will intervene the Banks when the banks financial condition worsen below certain limits.
  • The limits are based on  CRAR (Capital to Risk weighted Asset Ratio), NPA (Net Non-Performing Assets)  and RoA(Return on Assets).
  • If the PCA implemented, then there will be halting branch expansion, limiting lending limit, stopping dividend payment, audit, restructuring operation and may RBI can supersede banks board.
  • In April 2017 RBI has revised its PCA Framework . Till now 10 Indian banks namely  United Bank of India, Bank of India, Central Bank of India,  Bank of Maharashtra, UCO Bank, Corporation Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Dena Bank IDBI Bank and Indian Overseas Bank came under PCA.
  • PCA is applicable only for commercial bank , it is not applicable for co-operative banks, non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) and Micro finance Institutions (MFIs).

About Project DARPAN: 
  • The project DARPAN aim to provide financial inclusion of unbanked rural population.
  • Till now 43,171 branch post offices have migrated under DARPAN Project and aiming to complete the project by 2018.
  • The Project will offer core banking services like cash deposit in savings bank (SB) and recurring deposit (RD), withdrawal, new account opening Aadhaar seeding and  more.

Union Government has launched the new rural financial inclusion project called DARPAN (Digital Advancement of Rural Post Office for A New India) with the aim to improve the financial inclusion of unbanked rural population.

The DARPAN IT (Information Technology) modernization project helps to improve the services given by Post offices to rural people across the country.

Poet Inquilab has been posthumously selected for Sahitya Akademi Award 2017.  

5.Yu, Ma vasuki winner of Sahitya Skademi award for translator. 
Yu, Ma Vasuki has been selected as the winner of Sahitya Akademi for translator , he has translated more than 150 books from Malayalam and award given for translating O.V. Vijayan’s Khasakkinte Itihasam as Kashakkin Ithikasam in Tamil.

1.India's First National Rail and Transportation University at Vadodara 
The Union Cabinet has given its nod to establish a first ever National Rail and Transportation University at Vadodara, Gujarat. The university aim to modernising the railways and also helps India to become global leader in Transport sector.

2.ISRO and NASA Collaboration - NISAR 
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) joint project NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite is moving towards realisation by 2021. It is the World’s most expensive Earth monitoring satellite.

3.India has deployed its own navigational system - NavIC 
ISRO has installed the indigenous regional positioning system named NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation). It consists of seven satellites in a constellation to provide Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) services in Indian mainland and surrounding region up to 1500 Km and provides services of SPS (Standard Positioning Service) and RS (Restricted Service). 

NavIC will work similar like GPS(Global Positioning system) of US, Galileo of Europe, Russia’s Glonass, Quasi Zenith Satellite System of Japan and Beidou of China 

4.India to chair Kimberly Process in 2019. 
India will assume Chair Kimberly Process in 2019 and India will Vice-chair in 2018.
Kimberly Process is a certification scheme it makes member countries to certify shipments of diamonds as conflict free and prevent any conflict in genuine trade.

It established in 2000 in Kimberly, South Africa, to discuss about to stop the trade in conflict diamonds and to ensure conflict free legitimate trade.

 5.ASI to establish a site museum at Keezhadi. 
Tamil Nadu Government has given 2 acres of land to establish a site Museum at Keezhadi to Archaelogical survey of India.

Union government has given approval to carrying out excavation at Keezhadi in 2018 and all the expenditure should borne by state government. 

6.Bilateral Exercise Naseem-Al-Bahr between India and Oman Navy 
India conducts the naval bilateral exercise with Oman navy called Naseem-Al-Bahr or Sea Breeze. This is the 11th edition of biennial exercise since 1993. Indian Naval Ships Trikand and Teg participated in Exercise.

7.Loan Agreement signed for Pare Hydroelectric Plant . 
Addition Euro 20 Million Loan Agreement has been signed for Pare Hydroelectric plant under Indo-German Bilateral Development Cooperation with the aim to provide efficient and ecological friendly generation electric power.It is located in Arunachal Pradesh.

8.Swarn Project in Railways 
Indian Railways has  decided to launch Project Swarn" with the aim to improving the passenger experience in train including coach interiors, onboard cleanliness, clean toilets,staff behavior, catering, linen, punctuality, security, onboard entertainment and also real time feedback from passenger.

9.Begumpuri Masjid and Sarai Shahji Monuments declared as Protected Monuments 
Begumpuri Masjid and Sarai Shahji monuments in Delhi has been declared as protected monuments of India. 

10.New Scorpion found in Tripura. 

Scientist has found a new species called the Schaller’s wood scorpion in Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary, Tripura..
