The Chief minister of Tamil Nadu, O Panneer Selvam presented the state budget for the financial year 2015-2016 on 25th March 2015. The major highlights are listed below.

• Total budget deficit 4,616 crores
• Fiscal deficit - 2.89 % of State GDP 
• VAT exemption for fishing accessories
• VAT reduction form 14.5% to 5% for Cell phones, LED lights and Motor Pumps
