National Programme on use of Space Technology for Agriculture

TNPSC Current Affairs - December 2017 by TNPSC Guru 
The new programme called National Programme on use of Space Technology for Agriculture (NPSTA) is proposed by Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare for using space and Geospatial tools for Mapping, Monitoring and Management of Agriculture.

This proposed programme contains Crop Assessment & Monitoring; Agricultural Resources Management; Disaster Monitoring and Mitigation and Satellite Communication and Navigation Applications.

These programme will subsume the current programmes like
FASAL (Forecasting Agricultural output using Space, Agro-meteorology and Land based observations),,
NADAMS(National Agricultural Drought Assessment and Monitoring System),
CHAMAN (Coordinated programme on Horticulture Assessment and Management using geo informatics,
KISAN(C(K)rop Insurance using Space technology And geoiNformatics) and Crop intensification planning.
