India Observes 75th anniversary of the Quit India Movement

India observed 75th Anniversary of the Quit India Movement which was launched by Mahatma Gandhi to seek an end to British rule in India on 8th August 1942.

About Quit India Movement:
  • Mahatma Gandhi launched the Quit India Movement in August 1942 in Bombay session of All-India congress committee.
  • It was launched for demanding the end of British Rule in India.
  • In a speech in Gowalia tank Maidan of Bombay, Gandhiji gave the famous slogan “Do or Die”, we shall either free India or die in the attempt, and we shall not live to see the continuation of our slavery.
  • British were well prepared to suppress the movement; it has arrested most of the congress leaders, also British had support from Viceroy’s Council, All India Muslim league , the Communist Party, princely states, the Indian Army and the Civil Services.
