Tamil Nadu students to get one year exemption from NEET – Nirmala Sitaraman.

TNPSC Current Affairs - August 2017 by TNPSC Guru.

Union Minister Nirmala Sitaraman said that Union Government will provide 1 year exemption for Tamil Nadu students from NEET, if State government brings an ordinance seeking exemption from NEET.

Issue:
  • In Tamil Nadu most of the students in rural areas have studied the state board syllabus. It is very difficult for them to pass in NEET because the questions asked in NEET exam is based on NCERT books.
  • In Simple students from CBSE board has more advantage than the students from State board. It doesn’t mean Tamil Nadu state board syllabus is inferior, but students who studied the NCERT books have more advantage.
About Ordinance:
  • As per article 213 State Government can promulgate ordinance if the state legislature is not in session. Also circumstances should satisfy the Governor.
  • For NEET Tamil Nadu Government will promulgate ordinance and send it to centre for their nod.
  • Once ordinance get nod from Centre, Tamil Nadu government can admit students based on the 12th standard marks for Government Quotas.
