World Food India 2017 is a Global event that celebrates food industry in India. It was organised by Ministry of Food Processing industries Government of India with the aim to provide opportunities for both investment and trade for Indian and International companies in Food Processing Sectors.

World Food India 2017 held in partnership with confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Thetheme of World Food India 2017 is ‘Transforming the Food Economy’. This is the first time India is hosting the event for Food processing sector.

Significance of WFI:

• WFI aims to create a better environment to get high returns for farmers, creating employment and encouraging entrepreneurship in food processing sectors.
• India is one of the largest producers of food in world but only 10 % are processed. But countries like Malaysia, Indonesia process about 70 to 80% of what they produce.
• One of  the real problem in processing a small amount is due to  huge amount of wastage when there is glut .
• So the food processing can help to reduce the food wastage. If we process more there will be less wastage.
• It creates the environment when farmers doesn’t want to throw if he cannot sell in the market instead he can process it or store it.
• India has attracted $10 billion investment from this mega event.
• Germany, Japan and Denmark are partner countries , Italy and the Netherlands are the focus countries.
