The Water conserving Root-zone irrigation (CRI) technique developed by IAS officer K.Sathyagopal has been launched in Vellore district. It was proved to be successful in districts of Madurai, Tirvarur, Krsihnagiri, Thanjavur .

About Technique.:
  • This low cost root zonr irrigation method was implemented by Rural Development  and Panchayat Raj Department in 2016.
  • As per the conventional method need to dig a 2 feet pit and four pipes should be sink in the four corners of the pit .
  • These four pipes should be filled with river sand and compost.
  • Then vermicompost or manure or dung should be mixed with the sand in the bottom of the pit.
  • After that need to remove the four pipes from the pit, which creates four column that absorb water faster and pit will be filled faster.
  • This technique will ensure percolation of water into the deep layers of the root and maintains moisture.
  • This helps in effective growth of saplings and was effectively proved in species like Mango, teak, redwood and poongan.
