India singed $200 Million Loan Agreement with World Bank for the Assam’s Agribusiness and Rural Transformation project.

It will help Assam to enhance Agri-business investment, increase productivity of Agriculture and access to market , also helps small farm holders produce crops which is resilient to natural disasters.

3.Earthquake resistance concrete to be use in Schools of Uttarakhand.

Scientists are planning to add fibre-reinforced concrete treatment to the school building in Uttarakhand mainly in earthquake prone areas. The fibre-reinforced concrete can intensely enhance the earthquake resistance of seismically vulnerable structures.

Fibre reinforced concrete was developed by Researchers from the university of British Columbia , Canada

Recent study conducted by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has revealed that cultivation Maize is alternate for Kuruvai paddy during the time of water scarcity.The short period maize cultivation can bring handful income to the farmers.

Background:

The farmers in delta region facing water scarcity especially during kuruvai season (Month of sowing June-July less than 120 days) because most of them are completely depend on Cauvery water.
Past couple of years water from Mettur dam was not released on time , which caused water scarcity to the farmers in delta region during Kuruvai season which leave most of the land fallow.
To overcome this issue, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has undergone a field study and suggested Maize is suitable alternative for Paddy during water scarcity.
Maize is less water consuming, adoptable to the Delta region, and also yield good income to the farmers.
This is conducted as part of the World Bank funded Tamil Nadu Irrigated Agriculture Modernisation Programme (TNIAMP)

Background for Reservation:

In 1979 Second Backward classes commission under the chairmanship of B P Mandal appointed by Morarji Desai Government to investigate the condition of socially, educationally and economically backward classes and suggestion for their better livelihood.
Commission has examined and submitted their report in 1980 it has recommended 27 % reservation for other backward classes.
After that total reservation has become 50% including SCs, STs and OBCs.
It was then implemented by VP Singh government in 1990.
In Famous Mandal Case in 1992, Supreme Court has ruled that the total reserved quota should not exceed 50 % except in unusual situation.
Till date only in Tamil Nadu has given exception, As per Tamil Nadu Reservation act, it gives 69 % reservation to the backward community.
Now Rajasthan Government has passed a bill to increase its reservation quota from 50% ceiling to 54%.

The scientist from around the world made a careful measurement and found that their masses are diverging for around 50 micrograms or 50 parts per million. Having a standard of mass that changes is unacceptable. The kilogram is the last of the base SI Units is still be defined by a physical object.

In 2011, The General conference on weights and measures decided to redefine the kilogramme based on Planck’s constant.

Government has constitutes the four-member Commission headed by Justice G. Rohini, to examine the sub-categorization within Other Backward classes (OBCs). The commission was set up under the article 340.

About the commission:

The commission shall submit its report within 12 weeks of its appointment.
It will examine the unequal distribution of benefits of reservation among the castes included in OBCs as per the central list.
It also identify the respective caste,communities, sub-castes, synonyms in the central OBC list and classify then in respective sub-categories.
Already Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Puducherry, Haryana, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra Nadu have carried out sub-categorization of Other Backward Classes.

About Article 340.

Article 340 of constitution is to investigate the condition of socially and educationally backward classes and suggest measures for their advancement.

The exercise aimed to boost maritime ties with the country’s borders the Indian ocean.

About CORPAT:

The Coordinated patrols (CORPAT) carrying out by both India and Indonesian Navies in the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) twice a year since 2002.
During the time of CORPAT, the ships and Aircraft will carry out the patrolling on respective side of International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) to prevent illegal activities in close coordination and will share the information , also enhance mutual understanding, inter-operability between both navies.
The exercise will help Indian Ocean Region secure and safe for commercial shipping, international trade and legitimate marine activities.

The main objective of scheme is to procure energy efficient powerlooms, motors and rapier kit in bulk and provide at no upfront cost to the small and medium units.

Objective:

The new scheme will implement jointly by EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Limited ) and the office of the Textile Commissioner on a pan-India basis.
The new initiative will help people in saving energy, cost saving also no upfront cost which they can repay in instalments to EESL.
EESL is already successfully implemented this type of scheme in several sectors like LED bulbs, Electric vehicle and more.
This scheme will help to upgrade the technology of powerloom sector in India because around 24.86 lakh powerloom units in India use obsolete technology.
Also almost 57 % of cloth produced from the unorganised micro and small units in India.
This scheme will help to upgrade the unorganised micro and small units, leading to higher productivity, better quality and more.

1.Rameswaram and KanyaKumari identified as offshore wind power blocks.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has identified Rameswaram and Kanyakumari from Tamil Nadu as identified as possible offshore wind power blocks. It also released the guidelines on private participation in studies for exploring and identifying offshore wind power block.

The study aims to tap the India’s 7,500 km coastline for wind power. It estimated that Tamil Nadu has capabilities to generate 60 GW Offshore wind energy and Gujarat has 106 GW offshore wind energy.

2.Tibetan Refugees get benefits from new rule.

India said that refugees from Tibet will provide with no-objection certificate at the time of issuance of identity certificates is enough for them to travel any foreign country.

Earlier they have to get separate exit permit, which will be given after complete background check.

3.Hockey Asia cup – 2017

India beats Malaysia by 2-1 in Hockey Asia Cup final to win its 3^rd Asia cup Hockey Title. Previously India won in 2003 and 2007 edition.

4.Srikanth wins Denmark open – in Badminton.

1.Prime Minister to Launch RO RO Ferry services in Gujarat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate phase 1 of the RO RO (Roll on, Roll off) Ferry service between Ghogha and Dahej in Gujarat.

The Ferry Service which will help to reduce the travel time from 7 or 8 hours to 1 hour between Ghogha in Saurashtra, and Dahej in South Gujarat

The Ro Ro ferry service will help to carry around 100 vehicles including trucks, bikes, buses and 250 passengers between both Ghgha and Dahej ports.

2.Water conserving root-zone irrigation (CRI) technique was launched in Vellore.

The Water conserving Root-zone irrigation (CRI) technique developed by IAS officer K.Sathyagopal has been launched in Vellore district. It was proved to be successful in districts of Madurai, Tirvarur, Krsihnagiri, Thanjavur .

4.Police Commemoration Day is observed- October 21.

Police Commemoration Day is observed on October 21 to remember the police personnel who were martyred in Hot springs near ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir in 1959.

In 2017 there were 383 police personnel from various states were martyred.
