1.Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana:
- Union Cabinet has given its nod for extending Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana by another 2 years till 2020.
- PMSSY is a centrally sponsored scheme aims to correcting regional imbalances in the availability of affordable and reliable tertiary healthcare services and also to enhance facilities for quality medical education in India.
- Cabinet also approved plan to set up 20 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) across India.
India and
France conduct final phase of Varuna naval exercise near Reunion Island, a
French Administrative department in Indian Ocean.
3.World
Press Freedom Day.
World Press Freedom Day is observed
on May 3 to create awareness of the importance of freedom of Press.
4.Green
Revolution – Krishonnati Yojana
- The Cabinet committee on Economic Affairs has given its nod for continuation of umbrella scheme of Green Revolution – Krishonnati Yojana in Agriculture secotor beyong 12th five year plan
- The umbrella scheme comprises 11 scheme which aims to develop the agriculture and allied sector in a holistic and scientific manner to increase the income of farmers.
- It also aims to enhance production, productivity and better returns on produce to the farmers.
The 11
schemes are
- Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH)
- National Food Security Mission (NFSM),
- National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA)
- Submission on Agriculture Extension (SMAE)
- Sub-Mission on Seeds and Planting Material (SMSP)
- Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanisation (SMAM)
- Sub Mission on Plant Protection and Plan Quarantine (SMPPQ)
- Integrated Scheme on Agriculture Census, Economics and Statistics (ISACES)
- Integrated Scheme on Agricultural Cooperation (ISAC)
- Integrated Scheme on Agricultural Marketing (ISAM)
- National e-Governance Plan (NeGP-A)
All these schemes are aims to strengthening
of infrastructure of production, reducing production cost and marketing of
agriculture and allied produce.
5.India fifth
largest military spenders
- India emerged as fifth largest military spenders in 2017 with $63.9 Billion according to recent report by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
- The other top spenders are US, China, Russia and Saudi Arabia.
6.ONV Literary
Prize

Vasudevan Nair has won annual ONV Literary Prize, instituted in memory of
iconic poet late O N V Kurup, for
contribution to Malayalam literature.
7.New Species
of Shield tail
- New Species of Shield tail snake discovered in Western Ghats named Bhupathy’s Shieldtail.
- It is found only in Anaikatty hills of Tamil Nadu in Western Ghats.
