1.Fossil museum in TN.
  • Tamil Nadu Archaeological department is set to open Fossil Museum in Ariyalur district by end of July.
  • Officials said that the fossil Museum will features various fossils, rocks and minerals from the Pre-Cambrian period, the Palaeozoic period, the Jurassic period and the Cretaceous period.

2.Indian Army MoU with SBI. 
  • Indian Army has signed Memorandum of Understanding with State Bank of India on Defence Salary package.
  • The New MoU will include free personal accident death cover, free permanent total disablement cover and other accidental benefits to the deceased soldier and their family.
3.TCA Raghavan. 
Vice President Venkaiah Naidu appointed TCA Raghavan as Director General of Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA).

4.Dharohar Bhawan’ 
Archaeological Survey of India gets new headquarters building “Dharohar Bhawan” at Tilak Marg , New Delhi.

5.Hima Das 
  • Hima Das wins Gold medal in Athletics at IAAF world Junior championships .
  • Hima Das becomes first Indian to win the Gold medal at the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships.

1.About Section 377 
  • According to Indian Penal code Section 377  which means whoever voluntarily has carnal inter-course against the order of nature with any women, man, animal shall be punished with imprisonment or fine.
  • It was introduced in 1862 by British Government and it is still exist.
  • Gender activist moved to Supreme Court against Section 377, because they feels that Section 377 is violating the Fundamental rights guaranteed to every individual in Indian Constitution like Article 14, 15 and 21.
  • Article 14 which provides equality before law  and equal protection of law to every individual.
  • Article 15 which ensure prohibition of discrimination on  basis of caste, gender, religion, race, sex or place of birth to every individual.
  • Article 21 which ensure the protection of  life and personal liberty. 


2.India’s First Internet Telephony Service.
  • Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) introduced India’s first Internet Telephone service through its mobile app “Wings”.
  • This facility will help its customer to make calls using the app Wings to any phone number in the country. 

3.Genetically modified crop area
  •  India’s Genetically Modified crop area has now become 5th largest in world.
  • India’s GM Crop is entirely on Cotton( incorporating genes from the Bacillus thuringiensis or Bt soil bacterium coding for resistance against heliothis bollworm insect pests).
  • US Tops the list followed by Brazil.

4.India now 69th Shareholder of EBRD. 
  • India has now formally inducted as 69th Shareholder of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development .
  • It helps Indian company to undertake Joint investments across the EBRD operates.

5.India becomes 6th largest economy 
  • India becomes 6th Largest economy in World in 2017 surpassing France .
  • US tops the list with GDP $19.39 trillion, followed by China with $12.23 trillion, Japan wth $4.87 trillion, Germany with $3.67 trillion, UK with $2.62 trillion and India in 6th position with $2.597 trillion.


6.Anna Canteens,
Andhra Pradesh Govenemnt has launched 100 Anna canteens acorss State to provide subsidised food for poor.
Anna Canteens are similar like Amma Canteens in Tamil Nadu.

1.UNSC Resolution 2427. 
  • The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has adopted Resolution 2427 to protect children in Armed conflict by providing a legal framework for mainstreaming the rights, protection, wellbeing and empowerment of children.
  • The resolution was approved by 15 members of the council.
  • It also condemns the recruitment and use of children by non-state armed forces and killing, raping and other form of sexual abuses.

2.The Eat Right Movement. 
  • The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched National Campaign to improve public health and combat lifestyle disease called “The Eat Right Movement”.
  • The movement aims to engage, excite and enable citizens to improve their health and wellbeing.

3.Rajya Sabha Signed first MoU. 
  • Rajya Sabha has signed its first Memorandum of Understanding with foreign country, Rwanda for promoting inter parliamentary dialogue.
  • Venkaiah Naidu became the first Rajya Sabha Chairman to sign such an agreement with Foreign country. 

4.Global Innovation Index (GII) 2018 – India Ranks 57. 
  • India has ranked 57th in the latest Global Innovation Index 2018 Ranking.
  • Switzerland tops the list followed by Netherlands in 2nd and Sweden in the 3rd Position.

5.RS can use 22 languages. 
  • Members of Rajya Sabha can use 22 scheduled languages from the monsoon season of Parliament.
  • 8th schedule of Indian Constitution listed 22  official languages of India , they are mention in Article 344 and 351 of Constitution.
  • The 22 official languages are Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu

 6.Western Ghats- 4th best tourist spot. 
Western Ghats has been listed as 4th best tourist spot in Asia in lonely planet’s top five 2018 Best in Asia list.

1.Tamil Nadu Lokayukta Bill 2018. 
  • Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly finally passed the Tamil Nadu Lokayukta act 2018l through voice vote.
  • The Act would look into graft charges against government Servants including current and former elected representatives (including Chief Ministers and Cabinet Ministers). 

2.TN’s land pooling scheme. 
  • Tamil Nadu Government to bring Land Pooling scheme for projects which turns owners into partners in development.
  • According to the Section 39A of the land pooling area development scheme , it paves way for consolidating land for development of projects by making land owners as stakeholders in the scheme. 
  • It was decided because the acquisition of private lands becomes costlier after implemention of the land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013..

3.Institution of eminence Status.
  •  The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has granted Institution of Eminence to 6 educational Institution including Jio Institute-Reliance Foundation.
  • The other 5 institute are Indian Institute of Bombay, IIT Delhi, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, Birla Institute of Technology & Sciences (BITS) Pilani, Rajasthan and Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka. 

4.ADB approval for lining project in Son canal.
  • Asian development Bank has given its approval for revival of lining project in Son Canal Shahabad-Bhojpur region of Bihar.
  • The project will help immense benefit for the agriculture in this region.
  • Lining Project means to add impermeable layer to edges of the trench to reduce the seepage loss of water in canal. 

5.SAATHI. 
The Central Reserve Police Force has launched the mobile app SAATHI to reach out to the people undertaking annual pilgrimage to Amarnath.

6.India Tourism Mart. 
First India Tourism Mart to be held in New Delhi from September 16th to 18 with the aim to create a global tourism mart for India on lines of major International travel mart held across the world.                
7.Jewish Community in Gujarat. 
  • Gujarat Government has granted religious minority status to the Jews community living in Gujarat.
  • Gujarat becomes the 3rd state to grant religious minority status to Jews after West Bengal and Maharashtra.

8.Dipa karmakar. 
Dipa Karmakar wins gold medal in vault event of FIG Artistic Gymnastic World Challenge cup held in Mersin, Turkey.

9.World’s largest mobile factory. 
Samsung to open World’s largest Mobile factory in  Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

Tamil Nadu Lokayukta Bill 2018.

Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly finally passed the Tamil Nadu Lokayukta act 2018l through voice vote.

The Act would look into graft charges against government Servants including current and former elected representatives (including Chief Ministers and Cabinet Ministers).

Features of Act: 
  • Lokayukta consists of Chairperson and four members.
  • Chairperson would be current or former  judge of High Court or person with 25 years of experience in any field in anti-corruption policy, public administration, vigilance, finance and law.
  • Chairperson and Member will be appointed by Governor by recommendation of the selection committee comprising the Chief Minister, Assembly Speaker, opposition leader of assembly.
  • Local administration and government contracts do not comes under the purview of Lokayukta.
  • Chairperson or members will be removed by order of Governor.

1.ISRO’s crew escape module.
  • Indian Space Research Organisation tested its first Crew escape system at Sriharikota, as a part of India’s preparation to send an Indian Astronaut to the space with indigenously developed rocket in Future.
  • The system is an emergency escape measure designed to pull the crew members to the safest place during a launch abort
  • ISRO Said that  - “The Pad Abort Test demonstrated the safe recovery of the crew module in case of any exigency at the launch pad,”

2.Design University for Gaming. 
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) will set up  'Design University for Gaming' in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

3.Civil Aviation Research Organization (CARO) at Hyderabad

The National Board for Wildlife has given approval for including 4 species in the recovery programme for critically endangered species.

1.5th RCEP intersessional Ministerial meeting . 
5th Regional Comprehensive Economomic Partnership (RCEP) intersessional Ministerial Meeting held in Tokya, Japan.

About RCEP: 
  • RCEP is a proposed free trade agreement being negotiated between 10 ASEAN countries and their Free Trade Agreement partners, Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand.
  • If the negotiation is successful, it would create the world’s largest trading bloc.
  • The trade bloc represents world’s 46 % of population with combined GDP of around $17 trillion and accounts of 40% of world trade.
  • It will cover of issues such as trade in goods, services, investment, competition, intellectual property rights, telecommunication and economic and technical cooperation 

India’s benefit from RCEP:
  • RCEP will help to achieve India’s aim and objective of look-East policy.
  • RCEP is important to India because India is not a member of 2 other major regional economic group APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic cooperation) and TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership).
  • RCEP will help India’s Trade volume to increase with countries, which India not signed FTA like China, New Zealand, and Australia.
  • Once the RCEP get negotiated it can easily access the entire 16 member’s trade bloc and India’s Service sector like IT, telecoms, BPO, KPO, Banking services are likely to get more benefits.


2.Tariff concession to APTA members 
  • India agreed to provide tariff concession on 3,142 products for Asia Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA) members.
  • APTA is a trade expansion initiative under the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) started in 1975 through exchange of tariff concessions among developing country members of the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Members of APTA are Bangladesh, China, India, Mongolia, South Korea, Laos, Sri Lanka.
  • APTA was previously known as Bangkok Agreement. 
3.Genome Valley 2.0, 
  • Telangana government has signed agreement with Singapore firm for Genome Valley 2.0.
  • Genome valley is High technology business district located in Hyderabad, Telangana. 

4.MOVE : Global Mobility Summit. 
NITI Ayog to organise “MOVE : Global Mobility Summit” with aim for Vehicle electrification, integrating renewable energy and job opportunity and also speeds up India’s transition to Clean energy economy.

5.Vishwas Patel 
Vishwas Patel has been appointed as  Chairman of Payment Council of India.

6.Jose Eladio Alcain to head UNMOGIP.. 
Major General Jose Eladio Alcain of Uruguay will head the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP)
