India’s UJALA scheme launched in Melaka, Malaysia.

Unnat Jyoti by Affordable Lighting for All (UJALA ) scheme of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) under the ministry of Power of India has launched in the state of Melaka, Malaysia.

This scheme will provide 10 high qulity 9-watt LED bulbs to each household at a cost which is almost half of what is in market. It will make Malaysia to get clean energy, contribute to climate change targets and save falling energy resources.

About UJALA and its Effect: 
  • UJALA (Unnat Jyoti by Affordable Lighting for All) scheme was launched on Jan 5 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • It is the world’s largest and most extensive LED distribution Programme scheme which was undertaken by EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Limited) of ministry of Power of India.
  • EESL has setup centers across the country to provide affordable LED bulbs and energy efficient appliances.
  • This scheme even helps to brought down the prices of LED bulbs from about Rs 400 to around Rs 70 per bulb within a small span of time due to healthy competition among manufacturers.
  • As of now there are more than 25 crore LED bulbs has been distributed across the country under UJALA scheme.
  • This helps in 33,828mnkWh of energy savings , 13,531 crores of savings in energy bills per annum, and about 2,74,00,887 tonnes of CO2 reduction is taking place in year.
  • Latest survey indicated that, public highly satisfied and  happy about the scheme mainly  after seeing reduction in their electricity bills
