Supreme Court directed authorities to make Children not to walk long to school.

Supreme Court directed Authorities to make sure children not to walk 3 – 6km long only to attend the school. 

SC Bench headed by Justice Madan B Lokur said that Right of Education upto age of 14 years is now become fundamental right under Article 21 A of the Indian Constitution and making children to walk 3 – 6 km is not the spirit of Fundamental right to education.

Bench also directed Authorities open a upper primary school in such a manner that no child has to walk more than 3 km.

About Artilce 21 A (Right to Education)
  • Artilce 21 A of Indian Constitution says that state should provide free and compulsory education to all the children of the age of 6 to 14 years.
  • This provision was added by 86th constitutional Amendment Act of 2002.
  • This provision has been described as 2nd revolution in the chapter of Citizens rights
