  • Union Minister Uma Bharati has launched Swajal Yojana project at Bhikampura, Karauli, Rajasthan.
  • The projects aims to provide clean drinking water to every household round the year.

3.GOBAR-Dhan Yojana. 
  • Union Government has launched Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (GOBAR-DHAN) scheme.
  • The Scheme aims  to make the villages open defecation free and improve the lives of villagers.
  • Also with this scheme it will manage and convert cattle dung and solid waste in farms to compost, bio gas and CNG.  

4.Food parks in TN 
  • Tamil Nadu deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam said that government will setup 10 mega Food parks across state.
  • He also said that efforts are on in setting up first food park in Tindivanam with cooperation of  Ministry of Food Processing Industries and with NABARD (National Bank For Agriculture & Rural Development).

4.Four lakh olive ridley nest at Rushikulya. 
The endangered species Olive ridley has nested record of more than four lakh nest in Rushikulya rookery coast in the Ganjam district of Odisha in 2018.

5.China becomes Vice chair of FATF 
  • China has elected as Vice chair of Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
  • FATF is an inter-governmental  body to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.

  • Union government has notified the Electoral Bearer Bond Scheme 2018.
  • As per this scheme , the bonds can be purchased by  person who is citizen of India or incorporated or established in India.
  • Electoral Bonds can buy either singly or jointly with any other individual.
  • State Bank of India is authorised to issue and encash Electoral Bonds in its 4 authorised Branches.
  • The First issue will start from 1st March 2018.

  • Union Minister Harsh Vardhan has inaugurated Super critical Caron di oxide Brayton test loop facility at Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru

Who can accept the Electoral Bond?

Electoral bonds can be receive only by the political party which is registered under section 29A  of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (43 of 1951) and which secured not less than 1 % of vote polled in previous election to Lokh Sabha or legislative assembly of state.

How Electoral Bonds work?
  • If person wants to donate money to any political party, he can buy Electoral bonds from notified bank by making payment .
  • Then you can gift this bond to political party.
  • Then Political party will convert this bond back to money. 
This helps to curb the black money floating in way of donation to Political Party.

1.Tribunal on Mahanadi Water Disputes. 
  • Union cabinet has given its nod for constituting a Tribunal for Mahanadi Water Dispute under Inter-State River Disputes Act(ISRWD), 1956 request from Odisha.
  • The Tribunal will determines the water sharing between Odisha and Chhattisgarh basis of the overall availability of water in Mahanadi Basin.
  • As per ISRWD act 1956, the tribunal has to submit its report and decision within 3 years of its commission and can further extended for 2 more year due to unavoidable circumstances.


2.Silkyara Bend-Barkot Tunnel under Char Dham project 
  • Union Cabinet has given its nod for constructing  2-Lane Bi-Directional Silkyara Bend - Barkot Tunnel in Uttarakhand.
  • It is a part of Central Governments Char Dham Expressway National Highway (Chardham Mahamarg Pariyojana’) launched in December 2016
  • Char Dham Expressway National Highway aims to connect four holy places in Uttarakhand which  includes Kedarnath, Badrinath ,Gangotri and Yamunotri 

3.National Urban Housing Fund. 
  • Union Cabinet has given its nod for creating  National Urban Housing Fund (NUHF) for Rs.60,000 crores.
  • It will facilitate raising requisite funds to Government’s housing for all programme, which aims to build 1.2 crore houses in urban by 2022.
  • This fund will be situated in Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC), under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

4.Agni-II 
  • Indian successfully test fired intermediate range nuclear capable ballistic missile Agni –II from Abdul Kalam Island, Odihsa.
  • Agni – II is indigenously made and has a strike range of 2000 km.

 5.Crèche facility
  • The Parliament house to set up Creche Facility for Women employees.
  • Creche facility is a day care centre for Children.
  • This initiative will push other private establishments, central and state owned organizations to set up a crèche facility.

7.Asmita Yojana 
  • Maharashtra Government to launch Asmit Yojana to provide cheap sanitary pads.

  • Supreme court has ordered Karnataka to release  177.25 tmcft of Cauvery water Tamil Nadu.
  • As per the current order totally Tamil Nadu will get 404.25 tmcft of Cauvery water which is less than 14.75 tmc ft awarded by tribunal.
  • Karnataka will get 284.75 tmc ft, Kerala to get 30 tmc ft and Puduchery to get 7 tmc ft.

Note:
Article 262 -  deals with Adjudication of disputes relating to waters of inter State rivers or river valleys 

2.Chandrayaan-2 mission
  • Indian Space Research Organisation is planning to launch Chandrayaan-2 mission to moon around April 2018.
  • Chandrayaan 2 will be the challenging mission, as it will carry first time carry an orbiter, a lander and a rover to the moon.

 3.Botanical Survey of India agreement with NHM. 
Botanical Survey of India (BSI) has signed agreement with Natural History Museum (NHM), UK for cooperation in the field of genetic/taxonomic studies, research and training, conservation in India, including species and habitat conservation assessments and more.

4.World Sustainable Development Summit 2018 
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated World Sustainable Development Summit 2018 at VigyanBhawan New Delhi.

  • India’ forest cover has been increased by 1%  according to the state of forest report 2017.
  • Mangrove forest increased by 181Sq.Km, Maharashtra has maximum increase by 82 sq.km followed by Andhra Pradesh  by 37 sq kms and Gujarat with 33 sq kms.
  • It is the 15th biennial forest cover assessment released by Forest Survey of India which is initiated in 1987.

Key Findings:
  • India is ranked 10th in world with 24.4% of geographical area under forest and tree cover.
  • There is an increase of 8, 021 sq km( 6,778 forest cover and 1,243 tree cover )in the total forest and tree cover of the country comparing with 2015.
  • Forest cover assessment calculate based on having tree canopy density of 10 % and above in an area of 1 hectare.
  • Top Three states which has maximum increase are Andhra Pradesh by 2141 sq km, followed by Karnataka by 1101 sq km and Kerala by 1043 sq km.
  • Top 3 states where forest cover decrease are Mizoram by 531 sq km, Nagaland by 450 sq
  • Km and Arunachal Pradesh by 190 sq km.
  • Madhya Pradesh has largest forest cover with 77,414 sq.km , Arunachal Pradesh with 6,964 Sq.km , Chhattisgarh with 55547sq.km.
  • The Main reason for the increase is due to Government’s various conservation and management policies like Green India Mission, National Agro-Forestry policy (NAP), REDD plus policy, Joint Forest Management(JFM), National Afforestation Programme and funds under Compensatory Afforestation to States.
  • And the reason for the decrease in some states are due toshifting cultivation, other biotic pressures,
  • rotational felling, diversion of forest lands for developmental activities, submergence of
  • forest cover, agriculture expansion and natural disasters.
  • The present assessment is based on data from the indigenous LISS – III sensor, 277 scenes from Resourcesat-2 satellite and 33 scenes from Resourcesat -1  satellite which is procured from National Resource sensing Centre , Hyderabad.
