4.First Delta Ranking of Aspirational Districts. 
  • NITI Ayog has released the First Delta ranking of Aspirational Districts, based on 5 developmental areas of Health and Nutrition, Education, Agriculture and Water Resources, Financial Inclusion and Skill Development, and Basic Infrastructure.
  • Dahod District of Gujarat ranked first and West Sikkim district of Sikkim ranked second on the ranking.
  • Niti Ayog  Vice Chairman Amitabh Kant said, “the purpose of this ranking is to spur a sense of competition among the dynamic teams in the districts. Since these districts face many challenges including legacy, unexploited or weak resource base, deficit of manpower at different levels due to difficult living conditions. The ranking is also a tool to identify sectors and indicator specific challenges so that Team India, which is driving this programme, can take immediate corrective measures”

Dam Safety Bill:
  • Dam Safety Bill which will help State and Union Territories to adopt uniform safety procedure to safeguard the reservoirs.
  • The bill seeks to establish National Dam Safety authority as a regulatory body which shall discharge function to implement the policies and recommend guidelines for the safety of the Dam.

  • Government has released the new draft on cross-border insolvency resolution that allow comprehensive legal framework for insolvency cases involving foreign companies.
  • The New Draft Favours India to adopt the globally recognised and well organised cross border insolvency framework called UNCITRAL (United Nations Commission on International Trade Laws).

  • The first 2+2 Dialogue between India and US to be held on July 6 in US, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman will participate in meeting with US Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo and Secretary of Defence James N. Mattis.
  • The 2+2 dialogue format was agreed during the visit of Narendra Modi to US on June 2017.

2.First inter-state reintroduction of Tiger. 
  • Tiger Named T-2 from Kanha Tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh has been shifted to Odisha’s Satkosai Tiger Reserve.
  •  This is the first shifting of tiger form one state to another state in India.

3.Sub-Saturn like Planet 
  • Indian scientist have discovered Sub-Saturn like planet around a Sun-like star which is known as EPIC 211945201b or K2-236b.
  • The discovery was made using indigenously designed  “PRL Advance Radial-velocity Abu-sky Search” (PARAS) spectrograph combined with 1.2m Telescope at PRL's Gurushikhar Observatory in Mount Abu, Rajasthan India.

4.iHariyali app 
  • Punjab Government has introduced iHariyali app under Mission Tandarust Punjab with aim to increase state Green cover.
  • In iHariyali app , users can order free tree saplings and also get advice to control pollution.

  •  World’s first International Centre for Humanitarian Forensics has been launched in Gujarat .
  • It was launched by Gujarat forensic Sciences University in jointly with regional delegation of International Committee of the Red Cross in India, Bhutan, Nepal and the Maldives.

1.7-Star Gram Panchayat Rainbow scheme. 
  • Haryana Government has decided to give star ranking to village panchayats on the basis of seven social parameters under “7-Star Gram Panchayat Rainbow Scheme”.
  • Haryana becomes the first state in India to give star ranking to village panchayats. 

2.Governor’s Rule in Jammu and Kashmir 
  • President Ram Nath Kovind has given his nod for imposing Governor’s rule in Jammu & Kashmir after  BJP pulled out its support to PDP.
  • J&K Governor NN Vohra  has forwarded his report to President under Section 92 of the constitution of Jammu & Kashmir to impose Governor’s rule in J&K.
  • As per Indian Constitution under Article 356, President Rule is imposed in absence of an elected government.
  • But in Jammu & Kashmir has its own constitution, as per the Article 92 of J&K it will impose Governor’s rule in absence of elected government for period of 6 months.
  • If the elected Government is not elected within 6 months of period, then the provision of Article 356 of the Indian Constitution is extended to Jammu & Kashmir and President’s rule will be implemented.  

3.Surat Smart City Selected for ‘City Award’ 
The City Award has been given to Surat Smart City for showing great momentum in Implementation of Projects Under ‘India Smart Cities Award’ 2018.

  • The Second tri-service joint India-Russia military exercise INDRA 2018 scheduled to be conducted in second half of 2018 in India.
  • The first tri services joint exercise (Navy, Army, Air Force) between India, Russia INDRA-2017 held in October 19 at Eastern Military District of Russia
  • Before INDRA 2017 exercise, all the previous exercise conducted by single service exercise.
  • This exercise will helps to boost the mutual confidence, inter-operability and sharing the best practices between India and Russia’s armed forces.
  • INDRA Stands for IND-India and RA-Russia; it is a bi-annual military exercise conducting since 2003.


3.National Targets for off-shore wind power. 
  • To boost confidence to wind industry, Government has declared national targets for off-shore wind power by adding medium term target of 5 GW  by 2022 and long term target of 30 GW by 2020.

  • Chrisilla Volupe the rare spider found after 150 years from Wayanadu wildlife sanctuary in Kerala.

1.NSG plenary meeting 

  • Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) Plenary Meeting held in Jurmala , Latvia.
  • This is the first meeting after Latvia assumes chairmanship of NSG for 2018-2019 also it is the first Baltic state to chair the NSG
  • India is not the member of NSG , but India is member of other 3 export control regimes – MTCR, Australia Group and Wassenaar Arrangment.
  • China is blocking India’s membership to NSG.
  • Latvia the current chair backing India’s membership to NSG but entering into NSG requires approval of all 48 participating countries.

4.Tamil Nadu Ranks 13th in Urban Street Vendors Programme. 
  • Latest Systematic Progressive Analytical Real Time Ranking (SPARK) ranks Tamil Nadu in 13th position in support for Urban Street Vendors programmed implemented under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM).
  • Madhya Pradesh tops the rank followed by Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh in 2nd and 3rd postion.

5.Dhanush artillery gun 
  • The indigenously upgraded Dhanush artillery gun clears final trials and ready to inducted in Indian Army.
  • The upgraded version of Dhanush procured from Swedish Bofors by Indian in mid 1980s.
  • Dhanush is 155 mm , 45 calibre gun with a strike range of 36 km.

Difference b/w FPI and FDI.
  • Foreign Portfolio investment is an investment held by foreign investor in Indian securities, bonds and other financial assets .
  • Like Foreign Direct investment (FDI) it doesn’t provide direct ownership on financial assets , bonds or securities, instead its goal is to create quick money by investing.
  • Foreign investor purchase direct business in other country is called Foreign Direct investment.  
  • FPI is more liquid and less risky comparing to FDI.

NITI Aayog:
  • National Institute for Transforming India Aayog (NITI Aayog) formed on January 2015 which replaced the Planning commission instituted in 1950.
  • The objective of NITI Aayog is to fostering cooperative federalism, active involvement of states,
  • NITI Aayog comprises of Prime Minister as Chairperson and the Governing Council comprising the Chief Ministers of all the States and Lt. Governors of Union Territories.
  • Prime minister appoints the full-time organizational framework comprise of Vice-Chairperson, Full Time members, Part time members, Chief Executive officers, and secretaries.
  • Prime Minsiter of India is Chairperson and the current Vice chairperson is Rajiv Kumar.
  • First vice chairperson is Arvind Panagarhiya.

  • Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) Plenary Meeting held in Jurmala , Latvia.
  • This is the first meeting after Latvia assumes chairmanship of NSG for 2018-2019 also it is the first Baltic state to chair the NSG
  • India is not the member of NSG , but India is member of other 3 export control regimes – MTCR, Australia Group and Wassenaar Arrangment.
  • China is blocking India’s membership to NSG.
  • Latvia the current chair backing India’s membership to NSG but entering into NSG requires approval of all 48 participating countries. 

About NSG and its benefit. 
  • Nuclear Supplier Group is a group of Nuclear supplier countries which aims to prevent nuclear proliferation by controlling the export of materials, equipment and technology which is used to produce nuclear weapons.
  • NSG was founded in response to India’s nuclear test on 1974.
  • NSG Consists of 48 members which includes 5 nuclear weapon states like US, China, UK, Russia and France. 

India’s Benefit if it gets membership.
  • If India becomes member of NSG, It will open India to international nuclear commerce.
  • India will get access to international market to export and import nuclear related materials.
  • Also India will get access to foreign technologies.
  •  Also it can sell its indigenous technology to foreign countries to earn foreign exchange.

1.NLCIL’s three 100 MW Solar Power projects. 
  • Union Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Limited (NLCIL)’s three 100 MW Solar Power Projects for commercial operation.
  •  The 3 power projects are located in Thoppalaakkarai and Sethupuram in Virudhunagar District and Sellaiya Sezhiyanallur in Tirunelveli District which has the capacity of 100 MW each.

2.Swajal Launched in 115 Aspirational Districts 
  • Swajal Scheme has been launched in 115 aspirational districts in country with aim to provide piped water supply to village powered by solar energy.
  • Swajal is a community owned drinking water programme for continuous water supply , in which 90% of cost borne by Government and 10 % by community .

3.Report on the Composite Water Management Index 
  • NITI Ayog releases the report on the Composite Water Management Index, in which Gujarat top’s list and it is followed by Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh.
  • The worst performer of water management states are Jharkhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
  • The Composite Water Management Index launched by NITI Ayog as a useful tool to assess and improve the performance of management of water resources.
  • It also said that Index is an attempt to inspire the states in efficient and optimal utilization of water, and recycling it.

4.Mount Deotibba Summit 
  • Indian Naval Women Mountaineers summited Mount Deotibba which is located in Himachal Pradesh with the height of 6001 Mts.
  • It is the second highest peak in Pir-Panjal range in Himachal Pradesh.

5.106th Indian Science Congress
